Joy for Julia

Julia Bleasdale ran under the UK Olympic “A” standard for 10,000 metres on Sunday 29th April in the USA to earn a firm hold of an Olympic place this summer.

Article from The Daily Telegraph.

Julia competed in the Payton Jordan Invitaional meeting in Stanford, California finishing 4th in 31:29.57. That time is 15 seconds inside the “A” standard, ranks her current UK 1 by some margin, 5th on the UK all-time list and the icing on the cake is that she run a club record too. Not a bad afternoons work!

I have been reliably informed that there are no formal UK trials for 10K, so it is a case of seeing if 3 women run faster before the selectors make their decision in July. It would be hard to see her not being the first Hillingdon Athlete at the Olympics since 1984. Fingers crossed.

The first Alder Valley of 2012 saw the boys facing cold and very wet conditions at Bracknell reports Alison Alford. Unfortunately due to the weather, there were quite a very absentees but it was great to see so many smiling faces and parents cheering the team on.

Harrison Filby (U11) ran an excellent 1000 metres to finish 1st in 3m 45, followed very closely by Gregor Nordstrum in 3rd place in 3m 48.  Sam Frazer (U15) winning the 100m in 13.2 and Niall Bowler (U17) setting a new PB in the High Jump of 1.65. In their final year as U17’s Alan Davidson and Connor Feek had a point to prove.  They both won their 200m respectively with also excellent placings in the 100m.  A big thank you to both of them for agreeing to fill the gaps in the 400m and gaining valuable points for the team.  The U17 relay was the last event of the day and we finished in 1st place.

At such an early stage of the season, it was great to see so many PB’s being set.  These were Oscar Chan (U15’s 100m & LJ), Josh Malyan, (U15 100m & U15 800m), Sebastian Mills (U13, 100m & 1500m), Alex Barker (U17, 200m & LJ), Liam Holbrook (U15, 200m & U15, 800m), Adam Jones (U15, 200m & JT), Tommy Pike (U15, 1500m), Michael How (U13, 75mh), Niall Bowler (U17, HJ & LJ), Kevin Acraman (U17 Discus), Arron Connell (U13 Javelin),

Southern Athletics League Saturday 21st April

The first SAL match of the season involved a short trip up the A40 to face home team Oxford City, plus Radley and  Wycombe Phoenix.

Rob Thompson and Sam Blanshard won the ‘A’ and ‘B’ 2k steeplechase respectively. For Sam’s debut over the barriers, drought meant the water jump was left empty and the times won’t officially stand. Rob was pleased as his league record is sure to stand for at least this year, torrential rain aside.

Perennial field event gem Phil Hindley won the high jump in 1.75m. He also pole vaulted 2.6m for a 2nd place and another ‘A’ 2nd place in the shot.

There were Personal Bests being broken in this early part of the season. Nicola Tikare clocked 12.66 in the 100m and  Michael Kendal managed 2pb’s; 7.59m for the shot and 2.0m in the Pole vault.

The team finished 3rd overall. Full results here.
