England Athletics Raise Affiliation fees
England Athletics have announced they are raising athlete affiliation fees to £10.00 for 2013. This is contary to the position of the vast majority of club reps that voted against a rise of any kind at the recent consultation meeting.
If they can spend it wisely and on competitive athletes and systems then £10 is a fair price to pay in the grand scheme, however it is not clear that EA will or have done so previously. Despite putting out a statement saying they want to listen and work with clubs they have ignored the clubs on this matter which doesn’t bode well for the future. People don’t like being ignored so no doubt this will rumble on with clubs and athletes boycotting these fees maybe out of principle or for economic reasons.
England Athletics statement can be found here. Minutes from the North, Midlands and South meetings can be found under “Consultation Sheets” here.

Metropolitan League, Alexandra Palace, 15 December 2012
In the third Metropolitan League fixture of the season, a lack of athletes cost Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men’s team dear as the A team finished eighth in Division 1 and the B team finished ninth in Division 3.
Robert Thompson was first scorer for the club in 19th in a high quality field and there was the welcome return of Ed Campbell from University as he finished 5th scorer for the club in 119th. However, with only 21 senior men competing for the club and missing seven athletes from the A team scoring twelve at the previous fixture at Stevenage the men recorded their worst team performance for the past two years.
The Senior Women also suffered from a lack of numbers as they finished fifth in Division 2, led home by Beth Young in 40th place whilst there was positive news in the Under 17 Men’s race as the team finished third with Ruben Vos in third place overall.

Liddiard Trophy & Serpentine 5K Results
After a few days of heavy rain and flooding the Kingsbury course for the Liddiard Trophy on Saturday 24th November was unsurprisingly very wet, soft and muddy. Adding in the extra element of a cold wind it probably explains the meigre finishing total of 61 in the mens race. Hillingdon’s men were led home to third team prize by James Laing who finished fourth behind Henry Dodwell and Ryan McKinley of Highgate and Rob Wilson of ESM respectively. Results here.
On a cold, crisp sunny lunch time in Hyde Park 3 HAC men competed in the Serpentine Last Friday of the month 5K. Results here. Get in quick if you want to do the December race on the 28th.
