99th 5k Training Race 14 August 2014

This Thursday is the 99th 5k Training Race starting at 6.40pm. The race is free to Hillingdon AC members with a small charge of £3 for non club members. Register at the clubhouse in Ruislip by 6.30pm if you wish to take part. Following the race there will be a quiz organised by Paul Leppard starting at 8.00pm whilst John Bignell is preparing ham or cheese ploughmans’. Please contact John if you would like a ploughman’s so that John knows how many people to cater for.

Paul Hull wins Windsor Ultra

Paul Hull finished joint first with Jonathon Hall in the Windsor Ultra on Saturday 10th August. After 42 miles of wonderful scenery and pain he finished in 6 hours 29 minutes. Well done Paul, fantastic achievement

U13 Club Records Broken

Congratulations to Under 13 club athlete Holly Hall who recently broke 2 club records. She is now the proud owner of a Javelin record of 24.94m and she smashed the 10 year old discus record by nearly 2.5 metres with a throw of 20.07 metres. Well done to Holly and her coach, Alison Alford.

Southern Road Relays

Important date for the diary for competing club members. Please share with your fellow club members and associates as we want the strongest turn out possible at this fixture. Lets not settle for second best. For those of you not aware, I’m the new seniors and veterans competitions club management committee member having recently filled the role vacated by Gavin Collett. If you have any questions and ideas about how we can improve please contact me at mbateman@hillingdonac.co.uk. I’m also the new women’s team manager for the road relays and will be in contact with our competing women about this fixture soon. I will also be posting soon details of the Middlesex County 10K champs which are being held on the 27th September. Watch this space.

Southern Athletic League Promotion Confirmed

On Saturday, Hillingdon Athletics Club realised its ambition of promotion back to Division 2 of the Southern Athletics League; after just a year in Division 3 reports James Manley.

This was a momentous performance. Everything – from the men’s maximum across the A and B 100 and 200, to Hannah Wells’s bravery in the B string women’s 400m hurdles – secured a mammoth 274 points on the day. To list all the individual achievements would no doubt crash the HAC website server. The margin of victory will have to suffice as testament to the efforts of every member of the squad: London Heathside, the home team, also vying for the final promotion place, were left with just 239 points. WW1 Centenary

In the summer of 1914, Europe went to war. It began a conflict that would engulf almost the entire world. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand pushed existing animosities and alliances into the most catastrophic war the world had ever seen.

In recent times Europe had stepped back from the precipice; in 1914 there would be no peace or compromise. As grave events spiralled out of control Europe could not step back from the brink. Germany declared war on France and Russia then in defence of Belguim, Britian declared war on Germany on the 4th August 1914. By the end of the deadliest conflict ever from the 65 million soldiers, sailors and airmen that were mobilised 8.5 million were killed, 21 million wounded  7.7 million were POW’s or were missing in action. Unsuprisingly sportmen were involved and died in the war and here below is article on some of them copied from Spartacuseducational.com. Throwers Selected for Southern Counties U13 Inter County Match

The Southern Counties U13 Inter County Match was held on July 27th. There were 13 different Counties competing at this event. Javelin coach Alison Alford had 3 of her throwers selected to represent their county of Middlesex . Ben Hooley came 5th in the A string with 29.18m. Manvir Ranu came 7th in the B string with a PB of 29.94m & Holly Hall came 8th in the A string with a PB of 24.36m. Shot ,Discus & Hammer coach Reg Acraman also had Holly Hall selected to throw Discus . In Discus she a had PB of 20.07m and came 5th in the B string. She ended up throwing shot on the day for the first time with a PB of 7.51 in the B string.

They were all very proud to represent their county and enjoyed the experience of competing at the event. They helped towards an overall placing of 3rd for the Boys Team and 4th for the Girls Team.

Southern Athletics League, Lee Valley

Hillingdon AC’s Senior Track and Field team won their final fixture of the season beating London Heathside by 274 points to 241 to give themselves a very strong chance of promotion. A full report to follow once the official results from the other league fixtures are confirmed.

Hillingdon Athletic Club wants to give every member from aged 9 upwards the opportunity to train and participate at his or her best level, in a professional and happy environment and be recognised locally as such a club.

We are club that provides for it’s members from Junior to veteran ages the opportunty to compete in Track and Field, Road and Cross Country events both locally and nationally.
