Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5K race – 28th December

A small merry band us headed into Central London yesterday to compete in the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5K race, on a perfect day for racing, reports Martin Bateman. As usual the standard and depth of competitors across the age groups was high with the overall winning time of 15.08 on a decent course in Hyde Park that avoids most of the festive crowds. Richard Mann and Gemma Barry were our first finishers. Full results can be found here https://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=12924

Black Park Pinewood Trail 5k – Boxing Day

Congratulations to Catriona Paterson who was first lady and third place overall at the Black Park Pinewood Trail 5km on Boxing Day.

Far more importantly she finished over ten minutes earlier than the other four HAC runners who grouped well finishing slightly further on down the field.

Track Force

Following a recent visit to the track by the UKA club support officer we have been asked to be one of the pilot sites for a new initiative. It is based on the very successful Cricket Force (see video at https://www.ecb.co.uk/tv/362037). It is essentially an initiative to help clubs recruit more volunteers and to build relationships between track operators and clubs. It consists of volunteers tackling small jobs around the track on a given date in order to get the place neat and tidy for the new track year. The jobs will be agreed by the club and track operator and allocated to volunteers prior to the actual date. UKA have some money from which they have agreed to provide tee-shirts, bacon rolls etc on the day.

UKA will support us but the initiative needs to be driven by the club. The next step is to recruit a project leader and steering group consisting of 5-6 people. The group would meet a few times in the new year with the aim of a date for the Track Force in April. At this stage we are only looking for people for the steering group. Please speak to Dave or Courtney if you are willing to help.

Angel Doyle completes her first Pentathlon

On the 16th December I experienced my first pentathlon, reports Angel Doyle. A Pentathlon is an athletic event comprising of five different events for each competitor. As I’m u15 first year my events were 60 metre Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt and 800 metres. The athletics event was placed at Lee Valley aAhletics Centre indoor track. My first event was Hurdles and I ran 11.81, it wasn’t the best of times but it was decent for myself. Then about a hour later I had High Jump and that went pretty cool – I jumped 1 metre 33 and that was a massive pb. My third event was Shot Putt and I threw 7 metres 31 for a new weight of a shot putt because I’ve moved up an age group and it’s 3kg. My 4th event about half and hour after was long jump…well that didn’t go too well I had 2 no jumps and 1 terrible jump but I was getting really tired. My last and final event was the 800 metres my favourite event and I won my race and ran the time of 2 minutes 44 secs.

My total score of points of the Pentathlon was 1890 and I’m ranked 119th in the country and I’m really proud of myself. I could of done better but there’s always next time.

I just wanted to also say a massive thank you to my coach Roy Feaviour. He’s helped me a lot and taught me a lot of new drills and different techniques in training but a massive thank you to Lorraine Kingston for helping me get through the tough day and having a good mother to support me. I’m looking forward to next track season and I hope everyone else has a good season next!!

Thank you Hillingdon AC your’e an amazing club!
