Watford Open Meeting

Six Hillingdon AC athletes participated in the open meeting at Watford on the 15th May 2013. Jason Steel V40 was 5th in his 400m race, finishing in 57:44. The five other runners all raced the 800m event. Fastest was Chris Ingram, U23 men, in 2:04:05, closely followed by James Manley, Senior Men, in 2:04:34. Jack Treanor, U17 men was next in 2:09:95 then Clive Wickham, Senior Men, who was 3rd in his race in a time of 2:19:22. Last but not least in the U15 men category was Abdirahmon Hamud in 2:42:26. Vets Track- fixture one

Fantastic result at the first Vets track fixture of the season at Battersea on 13th May– well done everyone. This is the best start we have ever had, so a good turnout at the next fixture on the 10^th June at Uxbridge track is imperative to put more daylight between Hillingdon AC and the rest of the chasing pack……Alan and Jackie Butler. Summer Series Grand Prix

A large number of athletes who hadn’t previously competed in the earlier races in this year’s summer series turned out for races four and five. Despite this Dave Newman continues to lead the way for the men, with his closest followers currently the fast improving Daren Roscoe and the phenomenal Vet 60 John Bignell. Donna Nash has replaced Lynda Copson at the top of the ladies league, with Bhavna Shah now in third place. Ken Bobbett is leading the walkers table. Marlow 5, 12 May 2013

Hillingdon AC had a very successful day at the fifth Summer Series race of the year at the Marlow 5 as the club won the individual race, thanks to Robert Thompson, the Men’s team race thanks to Rob, Martin Bateman and James Manley and the Men’s Vet 60 prize thanks to John Bignell.

Robert won the race with a new personal best time of 25:39 to finish 27 seconds in front of Matthew Salt of Dacorum & Tring with Paul Fernandez of Adingdon AC in third. Martin Bateman finished in fourth and James Manley in 15th to close out the team prize with 20 points in front of Bracknell Forest Runners and Reading Road Runners.

John Bignell finished 80th overall to win the Men’s Vet 60 prize with a time of 32:48 while Hillingdon AC were out in force with 13 club athletes finishing the race on a bright but blustery morning on the banks of the Thames.

Middlesex Track & Field Championships

The Middlesex Track & Field Championships will be held this year at the Lee Valley on the weekend of the 25^th/26^th May.

Entries close on Wednesday 15^th May. Entry forms can be found on the Middlesex CAA website here.

If you would like Hillingdon AC to pay for your entry, please return a completed and signed entry form to Gavin Collett (11 Breakspear Road, Ruislip or gavin.collett@jti.com) no later than Sunday 12^th May. Any received after this date cannot be processed or financed by Hillingdon AC.

Watford 10km

Five Hillingdon AC athletes finished theWatford 10km race on Sunday 5th May, the third of the summer series races. Dave Newman put in a strong performance to finish third in his age group in a time of 37:48, and fifteenth place overall. He was followed in by Daren Roscoe, 29th in 38:36; Dean Burch, 56th in 40:01 and Phill Weall, 106th in 42:07. The only lady competing for Hillingdon AC was Lynda Copson who finished in 391st place in a chip time of 51:48. Full results here

Summer Series Grand Prix

Three races gone of this years series and we have clear leaders. Dave Newman, having competed in all three races, is building up a commanding lead. Lynda Copson leads the ladies following her performance in Sunday’s Watford 10km. Next fixtures are this Thursday’s 5km training race and the Marlow 5 on Sunday 12th May. Perfect Perivale Performances

On Saturday a large group of our junior u13/15 athletes took the short trip down to Perivale to compete in the first Youth Development league for their age group this season reports Diane Gibbons.
For many, it was their first time competing in this league but despite this, we had some stunning results. Nearly everyone achieved a pb and produced their best performance when it counted.
Our final result was that we came second by 13 points which is an incredible result – it was especially pleasing to see our athletes start to improve and win on many occasions their field events. Our track athletes also produced some fantastic results -Niamh McGuigan u15 produced the top result of the country with Celine Clarke U13 achieving a time which makes her 3rd in the country for 150m.

Thanks must go to all the coaches, team managers and officials for their continuing hard work and time. Roll on June 1st – our next match at Hillingdon track.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: If you use Hillingdon Stadium please take note that the track will now be open for training on Tuesday 7th May and Thursday 9th May. Hope I don’t have to make a triple update.
