Hillingdon AC’s senior men finished second team at the Liddiard Trophy at Kingsbury on Saturday. With the ground very dry underfoot and in relatively hot conditions, Hillingdon finished their scoring eight within the first 35 to just pip Ealing Southall & Middlesex to silver medal position, scoring 194 points to Ealing’s 195. Thames Valley Harriers won the trophy for the second year in succession, filling many of the early finishing positions to score 90 points.
Matt Fayers was first scorer for the club finishing 7th. Matt was closely followed by Martin Bateman in 8th, whilst the resurgent Richard Jenkin continued his recent return to form to finish 20th. Paul Hull was the next scorer for the club, finishing in 29th place despite limited recovery from the Abingdon Marathon six days earlier. Behind Paul, Hillingdon packed in a number of athletes close together comprising of Tony Grant (30th), Chris Ingram (32nd), James Shipley (33rd) and Simon Claridge (35th). Dave Newman and Paul Leppard finished just outside of the scoring places in 37th and 38th. There are throws and hurdles master classes happening in Birmingham and Brunel respectively. Both are being taken by experts in their field (excuse the pun) and are an excellent opportunity to gain greater knowledge in these areas. They are open to all coaches.

Well done to all the Hillingdon Athletes that competed at the first Met League fixture of the season on Saturday.
There were some very good individual performances across the board but the team result of 4th in the men’s division 1 was the pick for me. Full race results here.
In the “Met points make prizes” awards the winner of the bottle of wine for the first fixture was James Laing. He scored bonus points for a PB and was first man across the line in 25th place which scored him 106 points. Points results here.

After many years as manager of Hillingdon AC’s Road and Cross Country Men’s team, Gerry Archer has decided to step down and I will be taking over the reins.
During his time as manager, Gerry has overseen an overall improvement in the performances of the Men’s team as the club have consistently qualified for the National Six and 12 Stage Road Relays and won individual races and championships including the Liddiard Trophy in 2007 and 2009 and the North Of The Thames Championship in 2008. In addition, the Senior and Under 20 Men’s teams have regularly finished in the top three places at the Middlesex Cross Country Championships.
On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Gerry for all the time and hard work he has contributed to this role over the years.
