U17 Nicola had an impressive day with two PB’s and three wins. She started the day in the 100m ‘A’ winning in 12.3 seconds and breaking the club record which has stood for over 30 years. Next she won the 200m ‘A’ in 25.4 seconds, she completed her day on the anchor leg of the 4X1, pulling away to leave an impressive lead. U20 Jordan mirrored Nicola’s events coming second in the 100m ‘A’ with a time of 11 seconds dead and in an impressive show of speed endurance the 200m ‘A’ in 22 seconds dead. The men’s 4 X1 also claimed victory.
The athletes of the match were ably backed up their counterparts in their ‘B’ string events by Heather Gibbons and Alan Davidson both taking maximum points in the 200m. Run as a joint race Alan made it a 1, 2 in the 200m as did the tall and slim combo of Michael Kendall and James Manley in the 110m hurdles. Michael stretched an impressive lead winning in 17.8 seconds which helped him to collect 19 points for the team during the course of the day.
Carl Yates won the 800m ‘A’ in 2.03.1 and the 1500m ‘B’ while Rob Thompson won the ‘A’ 1500m. Just moments later Rob was in action in the 2k steeple chase. With most of the 1500m field having done the same first and second places were reversed and after having done all of the work Rob was left with 2nd place.
In the field the ladies team came second in every event bar (get it?) the ‘A’ high jump and Pole Vault events. Claire Tompsett and Emma Arnold having particularly busy days. The men had similar success with Michael winning the ‘A’ Triple jump with over a meter to spare.
To top the day off the ladies 4X4 team won by a decisive margin.
