IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Hillingdon is on Sunday 21st March and is set to be an unforgettable day.
There are already loads of local people signed up, so others need to enter quickly to ensure places for all their friends, family and workmates.
The Hillingdon Sport Relief Mile is taking place at the beautiful Ruislip Lido (Reservoir Road, Ruislip). There are three course lengths around the picturesque lake, 1 mile for children and beginners, 3 miles for those wanting to push themeleves a little bit further and for those up for a real challenge a 6 mile course. The first event starts at 11 am.
At the lido you can take a ride on the Lido Railway, take a walk through Ruislip Woods, grab a bite to eat at the Waters Edge pub and the children can play on the beach and in the play area. You can choose your own distance challenge from 1, 3 or 6 miles. That means, from teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day.
By getting sponsored to do the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile you’re helping to make a big difference. The money you raise will be spent by Comic Relief to help transform lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
Sport Relief has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to rise to the challenge. Last summer Eddie Izzard set an incredible standard by running an amazing 43 marathons in 51 days around the UK and there’ll be even more amazing celebrity challenges to get the whole nation geared up for the Sport Relief Weekend, from David Walliams and friends on the BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride, to Helen Skelton’s Amazing Amazon Adventure, to Christine Bleakley’s Thomson Sport Relief Waterski Challenge.

Fayers sparkles but is left green as Irish take the pot. Matthew Fayers, U17M, put his and the clubs name out there with another high standard performance. Matt took part in the 1500m's at the NIA in the National Age Group Championships, and there was positive talk of a medal to be won from his coach earlier in the week. However, 3 athletes from the emerald isle came over to grab the glory. Matt was a comfortable 4th and came away with a PB time of 4.04.81 and more importantly gained the experience of high quality competition within a professional event environment. More in Stefan's blog.
Emma gets a small grant with team performance. Emma Grant, SW, also had a good weekend on the blue track. She was a late call up to compete for North London Lions in the McCain Intercity Challenge at Lee Valley. This event has some of the countries best athletes and with prize money of £30,000 with £15,000 to the winning team alone you can see why. Emma ran approx 2.13 for 800m in the first leg of the relay medley as North London Lions accumulated 2nd place overall over the 2 event series.

Hillingdon AC's Senior Men were the only athletes to represent the Club this year in the cross country season's premier event that provides members with the opportunity to test themselves against some of the nation's best runners.
On a testing but picturesque course that saw athletes tackle the infamous Hill 60 three times, the men's race was won by Great Britain International Andy Vernon whilst Southern Cross Country Champion and Ruislip Met League winner Nielson Hall was fourth.
Matt Revier was first finisher for the club, continuing his good form from the Southern Championships with a strong performance that saw him finish 139th. Club stalwart Dan Thompson was second finisher in 289th, while Tony Grant showed the benefit of his marathon training, finishing 391st as he "just plodded round". Scott Farley finished 663rd making the effort to race despite a knee injury that has restricted his training recently. Paul Leppard completed his ninth consecutive "National" in 762nd and Stevan Dokic rounded off the six to score team in 1091th place. John Bignell finished 1176th and John Luscombe finished 1303rd. Martin Searle failed to finish as he suffered a reoccurence of a recent injury, pulling out with only half a lap of the three lap course remaining. 1428 athletes finished the race.
The team race was won by Aldershot, Farnham & District, Leeds City were second and Bedford & County were third. Hillingdon AC finished 48th of 107 complete teams.
Full credit to all those that made the effort to travel to Leeds to represent the club in this fixture.

The prestigous Men's 12 stage and Women's 6 stage Road Relays are on the horizon. This traditional event is one of the biggest team races in the country and its always a good opportunity to test the clubs strength against the best. For those that haven't done it before it bascially works like this. The Men's team is made up of 12 athletes with 6 running the long leg distance of around 9K and 6 the short leg of around 5.5K. This is done alternately starting with the long leg then short leg etc etc and the positions are based on the order of the last leg finishers. The men need to qualify to take part in the national event by placing 25th or better. This we have achieved in the past few years but only just partly due to the competition and partly through not getting our very best team fit and available for it which is very frustrating. The women's team is made up of 6 athletes who each do 5.5K. The first leg hands to the second as the men do. Last year we didn't enter a team due to a lack of athletes, lets not let that happen again. The women have the luxury of not needing to qualify for the national event but just need to complete the regional event. The team managers already have a fair idea of who they wish to enter but if you are over 17 on the 31st August 2010, new to the club, want to take part or maybe you can't take part please let Gerry Archer, geralda1@ntlworld.com Men's manager or Roger Williams, RogW167@aol.com Women's manager know ASAP. More info here. Let stage our strongest show!

Martin BatemanonFriday 19 February 2010 - 15:50 Sunday 14 February 2010 Metropolitan League, Horsenden Hill, 13th February 2010 Results
Results for the Met League are here.U13 boys Met the challenge as best in their league. The boys were second on the day, but claimed the well deserved league title victory at Horsenden Hill on Saturday. For the girls only Lily Fawsett flew the flag.
There was strong team performance by the U17 women too. They won the fixture and moved up to fourth overall.
With the U17 men's team depleated mainly due to a fixture pile up, they missed a great opportunity to come third at the very least in their league, especially because rival SBH had no finishers. Gavin Barclay was pipped into second while the team were third overall.
Emma Grant once again led the women home with a 7th place finish, however the next HAC woman was 65 places back and they could only take 12th overall.
The men's team stayed 5th in the league despite the poor turnout. Dan Thompson, again pulled the rabbit out of the hat as our first finisher. James Francis, U20, had a strong debut with a 58th place finish, while Richard Jenkin was our first veteran finisher by sneaking into the top 100.
