Coombe Hill 3.75m race Sunday 1st June 2008 report and results

paul__martin_coombe_hill_08.jpgBefore you read this; please note I offered this report to others to write due to a conflict of interest but; my request was declined so...
Ma
rtin Bateman (me) takes the highly coveted Coombe Hill title from the locals with Paul Cuddihy taking third spot.
It was a perfect performance by myself leading the highly enjoyable and slightly mental race from almost the start to the finish up hill, through woods and down gulleys to earn
my first victory in an all comers race of this kind.
The race starts uphill in sleepy, picturesque Wendover high street then departs the road onto the country along the ever steepening rigdeway trail. After a distance of over a mile and ascent of over 130 metres the route suddenly drops along a muddy, tree lined gulley. This takes all competitors to the foot of Coombe Hill and where the going gets tough, really tough. The ascent on grass is around 100m's or the height of 2 Nelsons' Columns with a running (when possible) distance of approx 300m's. From there on in it is a long but brisk decline through woods to the welcome sight of the finish in the Shoulder of Mutton pub car park.
The four to score team of Paul, Richard Jenkin, Brian Leach and I earned second spot behind Tring AC in the team race and more wine. Also competing for HAC was John Myall.
Performances: Martin 1. 24:02, Paul 3. 24:38, Richard 12. 27:27, Brian 31. 29.34, John 39. 30.38.

Southern Womens League, 31st May, Harrow

Manita scoops three PB's
On a deceptively warm day Hillingdon’s women’s team made their way to the Banister stadium in Harrow. As expected most members at least doubled up their events and Manita Scullard managed a PB in all three, the 100m, 200m and long jump. The slightly dizzy and also concussed Tara McNally managed two PB’s in the High and Long jump, despite her affliction.

Michaela takes gold at UK inter-counties

On bank holiday Monday (26th) in the UK Inter-counties athletics match Michaela Hutchison lined up for Middlesex in the 1500m. In the attrocious conditions, heavy rain and strong winds, she sensibly forced some of the other competitors to go to the front and lead for the the first three laps. With just 3/4 of a lap remaining she moved to the front and steadily pulled clear to take the gold medal from Phillippa Aukett, Sussex (silver) and Emily Adams, Surrey (bronze). This all the more impressive as Michaela is just returning to action following three months sidelined by injury.

National Young Athletes League Round 2, Hillingdon Stadium, Sun. 18 May 2008 - Boys Results

After their great start in Round 1, our youngsters beat 3 more clubs to consolidate their league position.  Their were more solid performances all round, but the highlight was Jake Cronin's win in the Under 15 Boys 200m in 24.7.  This was the only Grade 2 National Standard achieved by our Boys on the day.  The girls results will be reported separately.  HAC Boys results are attached.  Full results may be found at: www.natyal.co.uk/results/southern.php

Congratulations to our youngsters, who had a resounding win in Round 1 of the Young Athletes League.  It was a great all round team effort, with most athletes filling in several events, but special mention must be made of Mathew Fayers, who broke the Club Record in winning the Under 15 Boys 1500 metres.  His time of 4:20.5 is also a Grade 1 National Standard.  The girls results will be reported separately.  HAC Boys results are attached.  Full results may be found at: www.natyal.co.uk/results/southern.php
