Fayers fires to another club best

11 days after breaking the U20 mens 800m club record, 16 year old Matthew Fayers tore up the 1500m U20m club record at the BMC Grand Prix at Watford on Saturday evening. Matthew ran an impressive 3.53.09, which is .09 off the U18 GB commonwealth qualifying standard and eclipsed the previous club best of 3.54.4 by James Espir set in 1977. If this purple patch continues he may well earn a GB vest and I will be busy updating the club records page.

Vets’ go from strength to strength

says ‘Truly proud’ team managers Alan and Jackie Butler

A fantastic night of veteran’s athletics was witnessed at Battersea Park Stadium on the 2nd fixture for the season on Monday 6th June.

There were some wonderful individual performances by veteran athletes who would hold their own with others 20 years their junior. The night was capped with a fine grandstand performance in the team relay events of the 4 x 100m where the men’s and ladies teams came 1st and 2nd respectively.

Outstanding performances to note in the mens team were Jason Steele’s heroic comeback in the 800m to overtake serpentine and Herne hill harriers ‘best’ on the home straight clinching victory on the line. Keith Seldon, the field events supremo, cleared up as usual in the hammer and shot. Scott Farley again proved his versatility by putting in fine performances over the 200m, 800m, 3,000m and 4 x 100m; all in the space of 2 hours!  Andy Mansi, John Myall and Dave Martin were also great,  taking care of the over 50’s and 60’s sprints, jumps and middle distance.

Don’t get in a lather, take notice.

Upgrade of the ladies shower and changing area starts Monday 6th June

The club have met, the plans are in place, funds have transferred, equipment is loaded, leave is cancelled and the troops are ready.  For it is D for demolition Day this Monday 6th June at the clubhouse with the old toilets and showers being smashed up for the new dawn of sparkling new fittings and fixtures.

It has been decided to attack the women’s showers first. So for the next 4 weeks’ ladies it is the cold tap and Dave Holman’s tin bath, the one he probably crossed the Atlantic in, out the back of the clubhouse, if you want to freshen up after training. There should be some changing area available too. While the work is going on the Ladies are invited to use the toilet at the back of the club stock room and we will look into the feasibility of this area being used as a temporary changing area too.

Once the women’s area is finished then it will be the men’s showers and toilets that will be attacked and upgrades are expected to take 3 weeks to complete.

Apologies for the inconvenience.
