Race united and build on the success.

If you don’t know, and if you don’t know, where have you been? The next Met XC League fixture is at Ruislip on the 17th December starting at 1.15pm for the first junior’s race. Details here.

After a much improved turnout and performance last time out for all our teams at an enjoyable and well contested Stevenage fixture. Let’s make home advantage count at the next one by showing we are the biggest and best club in the league, if only for 1 fixture! All Club members are eligible to compete and can just turn up on the day and compete.

Fayers leaves ‘um trailing at the trials

Visit www.athleticos.org for more videos

Matthew Fayers continued his stella year with another fine performance at the Euro XC trials at Liverpool’s Sefton Park on Saturday 26th November 2011.

Competing in the u20 mens race, 17 year old Matt was the youngest top placer in an impressive 22nd spot just 72 seconds behind the race winner and international athlete, Jonny Hay’s  winning time of 20.23. Friend of the club, Richard Goodman of SBH was a close second and booked his place to the Euro Champs next month.  As we don’t have a vote on who is club athlete of the year, it matters not that Matt is already HAC athlete of the year for 2011… er in my humble opinion!

HAC registered athlete Julia Bleasdale also competed at the trials finishing 6th in the senior women’s race.

Met League, 12th November 2011, Stevenage results

Results from a well contested Stevenage fixture are here

Results from the Met League fixture at Stevenage show that the men narrowly finished 5th A team on the day behind Woodford Green, Serpentine, Highgate and just six points behind London Heathside in 4th place.  This has left the A team in fourth place in Division 1 after two fixtures. Thirty five senior and veteran Hillingdon AC men answered the call to compete and as a result, we had a stronger scoring 12 than the one we fielded at the first fixture at Woodford – unfortunately most of the other clubs also fielded stronger teams  and so we more or less finished in the same position overall.

Matt Fayers was first scorer for the club, finishing in 23rd place and whilst we were missing Paul Hull and Tony Grant due to injury, their absence was more than compensated for by the introduction of Robert Thompson, Dean Clark, Anupam Das and Matt Willis to the scoring 12. As a knock on effect, the B team was also stronger than the one we fielded at Woodford, finishing fifth in Division 3.

London cross country championship results
London Youth Games cross country results

HAC had two senior women running, Hannah Wells who finished 75th and Lesley Conway who came through in 96th place. A total of 140 runners finished in the very warm conditions, really rather more suited to a track meet than a cross country slog.

Earlier in the day in the London Youth Games U 17 race Esme Stallard placed 17th to finish second Hillingdon scorer with Heather Gibbons third scorer in 41st place in a field of 79 finishers.

Athlete of the year award

– Nominations by Wednesday 30th November-

It’s time for the annual award process to start and Nominations are needed. If you wish to nominate an athlete you think should be considered then please send details of the person and their achievements during the year to Roger Williams on RogW167@aol.com. Don’t forget that this award is for athletic achievement rather than good club support, there are other awards which acknowledge this.
This year there will be a different selection method. Over the past three or four years the public vote has been so poorly used (less then 10% of members at the best) that a decision has been taken to put the nominations (anonymously) forward to an informed independent member of the wider athletics community for adjudication.
thanks, Roger
