Ickenham 5

There is a new race in town and it’s called the Ickenham 5 and as the name implies, it is in Ickenham! A flat and fast 2 lap road race that starts and finishes in Swakeleys Park, Ickenham. It has got PB potential course written all over it.

This is not a HAC organised race but has been organised by Active Training World with HAC members, local runners, sports people and the local community in mind.

The organisers of the Ickenham Festival, are helping promote and assist the race and a large donation from any profits will be going to them for their chosen charities. HAC used to organise a very strong 5 mile race called the Hillingdon 5. That race is where the UK record time of 22.41 was set. Unfortunately the race fell by the wayside about 12 years ago. You’ll have to ask a senior club member why this was allowed to happen. Hillingdon is a sporty borough but lacks many events like the Ickenham 5  that I feel are open and appealing to all. This race could be a good promotional opportunity for athletics in Hillingdon and bring new members to the club. I hope as many of you will take part in this race which is open to those aged 15+ or share with your training partners and friends. Individual and team prizes up for grabs. The more entries the bigger the prizes. If you wish to help make the race a success on the day with marshalling or taking entries for example please contact me at mbateman@hillingdonac.co.uk

The race has a time limit of 1.30 hours and is made up of 2 laps so it wouldn’t be a big drain on volunteers time.

Entries open today, so don’t delay as there are only 500 places up for grabs. More information and how to enter is here.

Magical Mile End Results

On Saturday 13th July, the hottest day of the year to date, our u13/15 boys and girls made their their way to the final YDL match at Mile End reports Diane Gibbons. We had a superb team effort resulting in 25 personal bests and 2 club records broken. It was an amazing day with everyone working hard despite the very hot conditions. Unfortunately we were beaten by TVH who will gain promotion.
Also we have heard that 7 of our u13 girls have been selected to compete in the u13 intercounties match at Kingsmeadow on the 28 July. Celine Clarke (100,200), Dami Omojola(LJ), Anna Gizzi(1500), Hollie Acraman(800),  Ambra Beason(HJ), Emily Wilcock(JT), Rachel Miller(JT). What a fantastic achievement by them earning their Middlesex vest.  We wish them every success.

In temperatures nudging 30 degrees on Sunday, Hillingdon were represented by James Laing,  Alan Wells and Hannah Wells at  the New Forest 10. This is a very well organised race of 10 miles run on a mix of forest tracks and closed roads through most beautiful scenery.
James running his longest ever competitive race as expected was the first Hillingdon athlete home. James ran with the  winner in a race of 775 finishers until half  way, before dropping off the pace  to finish 4th in a time of 58:30; the race being won in 56:49. Hannah finished in 1:23:42 which was 206th ( 36th women) , whilst Alan suffering with the heat came in 633rd in 1:51:48. Results here.
The only wish of all three was that the temperature  could have been a  few degrees cooler.

Princes Risborough 10km

The latest race in the Summer Series Grand Prix took place on the hottest day of the year so far.  Despite an early start time, the majority of the field were feeling the effects of the heat, and the rolling Chiltern Hills, by the 5km mark. Although not a day, or a course, for fast times, the 12 Hillingdon AC athletes competing did themselves justice. Of the five Hillingdon AC women athletes, three were placed first in their age category. Without doubt the performance of the day amongst Hillingdon AC athletes, was Susan Monaghan who finished first senior woman in a time of 38:17, almost three minutes faster than her nearest rival. Other distinguished achievements for the women included first Vet 35 for Donna Nash and  first Vet 55 for Lesley Conway. With Jane Newman as the fourth scorer the women also bagged second place team, Jackie O’ Dowd finishing just outside the scoring four. For the men, the youthful John Bignell, once again found his form to take first male Vet 60. Martin Bateman, Simon Connell, the evergreen Andy Miles and Dave (mid-life crisis) Newman ensured that Hillingdon AC finished second men’s team. The remaining three runners were Daren Roscoe, Dave Smith and Andy Torrance. The club were thanked by the organisers for once again fielding a strong side. Well done to all 12 runners on representing the club in tough conditions. The next Summer Series race is this Thursday, the club 5km training race. Results of the Princes Risborough 10km will appear here

HAC Runner a Women’s Running magazine winner

On 28 September I was having a quiet night in, as I was running the Royal Windsor Trail Half Marathon the following day reports Lynda Copson. With a bit of time on my hands, I entered a competition in Women’s Running, lured by the heading ‘Life after the marathon – need a new goal? Welcome to Operation Ultra’. I entered, and thought nothing of it as I never win anything. But I was one of three lucky winners – free entry to the Royal Parks Ultra on 6 October (50k), full training support, new kit and in return our training experience is to feature in Women’s Running magazine over the next 3 months!
