Latest from Berlin

Two Hillingdon AC runners were in Berlin this weekend to compete on arguably the fastest course in the world. Both must be very pleased with their achievements with Martin Bateman finishing 424th in 2:48:12 and Matt Willis 921st in 2:56:19 . To have participated on such a momentous day, with the world record being broken by 15 seconds by Wilson Kipsang, must have been the icing on the cake. Well done to them both.

Moor trophies for Hillingdon AC

On a lovely late September day, with the majority of competing athletes heading off to take part in the Windsor half marathon, seven HAC runners decided to stay within the parish and compete in the Moor Park 10km.

James Manley, Paul Hull, Pete Warburton, David Smith, Mike Dooley and Liam Holbrook appeared for the men, with Patricia Hewlett the sole HAC female athlete. With a strong showing from Metros, it was clear from the outset who the main rivals would be for the men’s team prize. Strong performances from Paul Hull (12) and Peter Warburton (25), led in by James Manley (7), and with Dave Smith (31) pushing out the fourth placed Metros runner over the final kilometre, Hillingdon AC took the men’s athletic team prize by 5 points. 15 year old Liam Holbrook, running in his first 10km race, finished third in the under 18 category, 18th overall, in a time of 40:31. Mike Dooley, was third V40 in his third competitive race since joining Hillingdon AC finishing 9th overall in a time of 37:42. Patricia Hewlett (V45) finished 556 in 1:06:30. Full results are here

SEAA Road Relays, Aldershot, 22 September 2013

A poor turnout at the South of England Road Relays saw Hillingdon AC finish down the results in both the Veteran and Senior Men’s competitions reports Paul Leppard. With many athletes who would normally be pushing for a place in the A teams unavailable to compete, the Senior Men’s team recorded their worst performance at these championships since at least 2002, finishing in 50th place out of 80 teams, 30 places down on last year’s finishing position. The Vet 40 Mens team finished 19th out of 25 teams, the Vet 50 team 16th out of 17 teams, whilst Alan Butler and John Bignell ran the first two legs of an incomplete Vet 40 B team.

Ickenham 5 15th September 2013

22 HAC athletes sped round the new ATW Ickenham 5 mile race on Sunday morning with at least 17 recording PB’s or SB’s which is very impressive. Mike Dooley V45 was first to finish in 11th place with a PB of 29:50 but he entered as the Army, this had a knock on effect to the team score, meaning North Herts Roadrunners walked away with the team prize. Eva Mack was our first woman across the line in a PB time of 33:04 as 5th woman and 32nd overall. The race was well supported by the local community with a pleasantly surprising total of around 112 out of 201 entrants being local. Results here. A gallery of photos on facebook are here. A big thanks to those of you from HAC that helped on the day or took part.

Tough 10 “report”

James Manley reports from his tree in Upper Ruislip-pongo: On Saturday I had the dubious honour of leading a menagerie of HAC members onto the streets of Northwood, Pinner, Eastcote and Ruislip to complete the tough 10. The merry flock were skippered by our very own zoo keeper Alan Butler; who absent-mindedly loosed the cages, which some of these ‘athletes’ usually call home.

As we left the clubhouse, the late summer sun scorched the herd mercilessly. Ruislip common was doing a passable impersonation of the Serengeti, and the lido doubled up as a (not so) fresh water oasis. And so we sought relative respite on the cool peaks of Northwood Hills. [Read more →]
