Club London Marathon Places

HAC has 3 club places on offer to club members for the London Marathon on the 26th April.

If you are a fully paid up club member and want to do the marathon please email me, Martin Bateman at mbateman@hillingdonac.co.uk by the end of Thursday 8th January 2015.

Places will be awarded this year by ballot and the draw/s will be at the clubhouse on Sunday 11th January.  Once all applications are in I will decide, in my role as club competitions committee chairman, the exact ballot process. It will either be 1 straight draw or 2 draws with the first “seeded” draw for one of the places then all names going into the second ballot for the remaining 2 places. Anyone applying will need to pay the entry costs themselves if drawn from the ballot.

ATW Metropolitan League Race 4 : Women’s race, Saturday, 20 December, Uxbridge

There was a buzz of excitement in the air for the first ever Met League held in Hillingdon Farm Fields in Uxbridge on Saturday as a whole troop of Hillingdon runners warmed up in the winter sunshine keen to try out the course and reward the work of many dedicated HAC members who had worked it out so carefully.
Jenny Harvey in her first cross country race for Hillingdon emerged the new star of the Met League 6K women’s race. Showing her agility, strength and speed she became lead club runner at an early stage overtaking Eva Mack to finish 22nd in 24:07 – a great result considering the course was new and also pretty tough with a sudden sharp hill in the middle that used to be the artificial ski slope, and deep mud at the far end of the fields.
Our top three women were in the top half of the race with Eva (protesting “I don’t like the mud”) at 41st and another new star, Morgane Lesenne (“I love the hill!”) at 68th who also scored veteran points. The cross country season so far has seen new strong runners with every race, which should maintain the club in our third position or higher among the senior women’s teams in Division Two. Can we go for promotion to Division One ? – Yes, if our new fast ladies all run together in the next two races and if we are represented by as many women as possible!
Those finishing in the slower half of the race gained valuable points by running strongly as ever for senior and/or veteran’s teams: Zoe Dobbs 100th, Lesley Conway 109th, Pauline Fischer 115th, Melanie Spencer 116th, Susan Deanus (another welcome new runner) 118th, Donna Nash 126th (although recover from that cold please next time!), Jackie O’Dowd 150th and Sharon Talbot in 153rd place.
Full results and pictures can be found on the ATW Met League web site; www.metleague.co.uk

SEAA MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS: Saturday, 13 December 2014

Congratulations to the Hillingdon over 70s men’s team for their gold medal at the South of England South of England Masters Cross Country Championships, at Horspath, Oxford. Doug Milsom, Mick Miller and Rick made up this most senior scoring trio.
The Hillingdon women’s over-50s team came fourth, just missing bronze medal position to Winchester& District AC.
Regular veterans Lesley Conway and Pauline Fischer were joined by Wendy Harbottle, a seasoned road runner, making a rare appearance at cross country to make the 50s three-to-score. Individually they were 54th, 61st and 72nd of the 94 runners in soft mud conditions and placed 5th and 7th and 10th in the 55-59 age category.
Zoe Dobbs was Hillingdon lead lady overall in the race coming in at 51st and Donna Nash did well with 60th place considering she was recovering from a cold. Zoe was 22nd and Donna 23rd in their V45 age category.
Winchester & District runners took the top three places overall in the women’s masters race which was won by Lucy Elliot V45 in 22:36 secs.

Sad News

I am sad to report that Roger Cressy passed away on the night of 10th December after a short stay in Wexham Park Hospital. Roger had suffered from M.S. for many years and had been carefully cared for by his wife, Norma reports Gerry Archer.
Roger joined Ruislip-Northwood A.C. in 1957 and by the time of the amalgamation with Finchley Harriers, to form Hillingdon A.C. in 1966, had become a fine distance runner. He won the first Christmas Road Race to be held at Ruislip and later represented Middlesex County at 20miles and won the Road Runners Club Marathon Champs.
Although confined to a wheel chair for many years he took a keen interest in the club athletes and will be sadly missed by those of us fortunate enough to have known him.

In addition:

The funeral will take place on Thurs.18th.Dec.at 1pm.at The Chiltern Crematorium,(Milton Chapel),Whielden Lane,Amersham,HP7 0ND.
The Wake will be held at The Hillingdon A.C. clubhouse.
Donations are welcome to the Chilterns MS Centre.

Clubhouse use on Sunday 7th December

The cadets are holding their Middlesex Wing X Country Champs at the club this Sunday. Whilst we have been informed at short notice, the Management Committee are keen to support this event. It is a reciprocal agreement with them supplying 12-15 cadets for the Finchley 20.

The cadets arrive around 9am, filling both changing areas. The race & then the medal ceremony finish around 1pm.

Therefore there will be restricted changing and training facilities at the clubhouse this Sunday morning, 7th December.
