Veterans Track and Field League

The date for the 1st Vets fixture of the season is fast approaching and I know some of you still do not know details of the fixtures and who can compete reports Jason Steel.

If you are a Male/Female age 35 or over and interested in track and field we need you to help the team whether its scoring for the team or as backup and competing as a guest the more options both myself and Maria have the better.

We especially need for the men’s team over 50s and over 60s to get involved if possible as we are a little light in these areas but all ages more than welcome.
we have a really good team spirit and you will have a good evening competing.
The dates for the 4 fixtures are as follows,

11th May, Battersea
8th June, Hillingdon
22nd June, Battersea
13th July, Perivale

If you need help with a lift up to Battersea let us no as I am sure cars will be going up from the clubhouse and we can help if possible with a lift for you.
If anyone would like more information please ask Maria or myself for more details. Team managers page.

Hopefully we will see you there and lets do the Hillingdon Ac team proud as always.

Charity Competition Thanks!

We had a very successful evening at the track last Wednesday evening, 8th April. The weather stayed dry but a little chilly but there were lots of great races with many PB’s and a new club record in the U13 girls Shot Putt by Samantha Adenubi with a distance of 8.64 metres.

We have raised over £1100 through entries /donations which is amazing, £181 on refreshments and £241 on the tombola/raffle giving us a grand total of just over £1500!! There is also money from the collecting tins to add in as well so a brilliant result.

This couldn’t happen without an amazing amount of help, support and goodwill. Thanks must go to Fusion who donated the use of the track/facilities free of charge, all the officials/ coaches who gave up their evening to time the races and judge the field events…and parents who supported by helping make loads of homemade cakes, run raffles, help with the teas and on the events – there are lots more !!! A big thank you !!

Wilkie Mile

Despite Gavin’s appeal at the start of the race for the athletes to avoid a photo finish, this years Wilkie Mile was hotly contested with only a fraction of a second separating first and second. James Laing was victorius in 4:33, with Jo Carton a very close second in the same time. Rob Thompson was third in 4:38. Full results can be found wilkie miles 2015

South Of England 12 Stage Road Relays, Milton Keynes, 29 March 2015

Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men secured qualification for the National 12 Stage Road Relays on 11 April at Sutton Park in Birmingham by finishing in 21st place in the South of England 12 Stage Road Relays at Milton Keynes.

In very blustery conditions and intermittent heavy downpours, the team acquitted themselves well, as with the first 25 teams qualifying for the national final, Hillingdon’s men were always in the mix for a qualifying place with the team’s position varying between 19th and 24th place over the duration of the race.

The 12 stage relays are run over alternate “long” (7,664m) and “short” (5,053m) legs and on the long legs the club was able to call on the services of James Laing, (25:39), Rob Thompson (25:50), Simon Connell (28:32), Mike Dooley (27:35), Dan Thompson (27:18) and Martin Bateman (26:26). Of these, special mention must be made of Mike Dooley who not only made the effort to compete in these championships by driving up from Bath but who also arguably suffered the worst of the weather over the course of his leg.

On the short legs, there was remarkable consistency between five of the six runners with Dean Clark (17:55), Ruben Vos (17:56), Will Grbic, making his debut for the club (17:48), Philip Warburton (17:49) and Sam Blanshard (17:52) all running times within eight seconds of each other. Sam Lloyd was the only athlete to break this trend, running 17:22.

My thanks to all the athletes that competed at these championships in very testing weather conditions – especially those on later legs who had been forced to sit out the worst of the wind and rain by sheltering in the club tent but that still managed to put in strong performances at a critical stage of the race to ensure the club achieved qualification.
