Club Record

Congratulations to Sean Crowie who recently broke the U20 men’s club record for 200m. His time of 21.6 ran at Uxbridge in a YDL fixture surpassed that of Barry O’Sullivan’s 21.7 from 1990 and is now joint 3rd on the all time list.

May 5K Training Race

Well done to new member, Edward Dyer and Micheala Mayor for their first place finishes plus everyone else that took part in miserable weather. Massive thanks to the race officials, Cathy Girvan, Phil Welch, Harry Wild, John Bignell and anyone I have missed off and to Kathy Davidson for laying on the post race buffet and quiz.

SEAA U20/Senior Track and Field Championships

Entries are open for the SEAA U20/Senior Track and Field Championships at Lee Valley on the 13th & 14th June. The event details and forms are here.

It would be great to have a strong contingent of HAC athletes competing at this event which is normally of a high standard. Any members that want to compete in these champs and for HAC to pay need to get completed entry forms to me (Martin Bateman) by Tuesday 26th May. I’m usually at the track on Tuesdays and clubhouse on Thursdays during training times. Forms can also be handed to your club coach to give to me by the 26th May. Entries after this date will be paid by the athlete not HAC. Final entry deadline is 2nd June.

Watford 10km Results

On bank holiday Monday a merry little band of HAC athletes crossed the border into Hertfordshire in search of Summer Series points at the Watford 10K. The weather was fine and warm but the Cassiobury Park course was remarkably hilly and challenging proven by the fact that of the 890 finishers only 7 got round in less than 40 minutes!!   First home was Andy Torrance in 48.37 (position 142) who cruelly overtook pacer Zoe Dobbs with 400m to go! Zoe however achieved a very creditable 2nd in her age category with 48.53 in position 147.  Next was Tony Shaw in 49.43 (170) and current summer series leader Dennis Carey in 50.21 (196).  Next in was Paris Marathon sub four hour finisher Melanie Spencer in 51.03 (222) followed by Bob Burton in 52.41 (333). Ciara Williams, who had spent all  the previous day ill in bed and only decided to run 2 hours beforehand bravely finished in 55.59 (426) and William Harding completed the HAC turnout in 1.00.39 for position 547. That just gave us all time to exit the park as half a million Watford FC fans descended on the adjacent field to celebrate their promotion to the Premier League!!!

Thank You…we are doing a brilliant job!

We have received some very positive feedback from the Roger Simons, Chair of the UKA Track & Field Advisory Committee, with regards to last Saturdays YDL fixture at Uxbridge track.

Some of the comments made by the chair: “I would like to thank Hillingdon for a very well organised meeting last Saturday…..the other seven team managers were all very appreciative of your organisation” “There was a very happy positive mood around the arena” “The track, stand & facilities all appeared to be in good order and the officiating…looked proficient” “It is these support teams that make so much difference to the enjoyment of the athletes, officials, team managers, coaches & parents….so do please make a point of thanking them. Their efforts were very much appreciated” And of course thanks to Jill Miller and her refreshment team for such wonderful homemade cakes…”My wife (who is on the Board of National WI) was exceedingly complementary about the whole refreshment team – even going back for a second piece of their homemade cakes”

So a BIG thank you to all the HAC members who helped at this and other home fixtures. You really do make a difference.

We have 3 more home fixtures coming up on 9th May, 13th May & 8th June so please do give some of your time to make these events as successful!
