It’s been some time since the clubhouse had a good spring clean ( yes I know it is almost September). I would like to get a working party together for one Saturday morning for a few hours. Kirsten Williams is studying for a BTEC level 5 in Soft Tissue Therapy with Mel Cash at the London School of Sports Massage. As part of this course she needs to complete a number of soft tissue treatments in order to qualify. To help her achieve this we have agreed for Kirsten to attend the club to offer soft tissue massage for anyone who is interested.

The services she would be offering to members include

– sports massage

– postural assessment

– remedial massage

Techniques used will include neuromuscular technique, soft tissue release and muscle energy technique as well as more general massage.

Before treatment will commence a full case history will need to be taken and consent forms signed.

Kirsten will not be able to treat acute injuries so volunteers should wait at least 3-5 days post injury before having a treatment.

Initially Kirsten will be available on Thursday evenings for appointments from 7 until 9.15. Treatments will last around 40 mins. If there is demand she may also start running sessions on Tuesday evenings as well.

If members are interested in having a treatment if they could email Kirsten in advance on kirstenstep@aol.com. Although she will be able to offer on the day treatments it will be easier to treat if she has appointments arranged.

These services  will be offered free of charge from w/b 26 September.

On Sunday 4th September there is the Middx 10K champs in PB flat Victoria Park, London. The club will pay for your entry but you will need to enter the race yourself and forward your receipt to Martin Bateman or Paul Leppard. Emails have been sent to paid up senior club members about this event. Entry cost is £5.00. You’ll need your EA number. If you don’t know it please contact Steve Hirons at s.hirons@ucl.ac.uk. Congratulations to Paul Spencer for winning the latest edition of the Gosunder handicap trophy on Saturday 6th August. Despite the course being fractionally longer than last year due to an enforced detour Paul finished nearly 5 minutes faster than 12 months ago holding off a challenge from Bob Burton in 2nd and Melanie Spencer in 3rd giving us a married couple on the podium.

New for this year we had some relay teams taking part running 2×2.5 miles which allowed some of our younger runners (and parents and coaches) to take part and we saw some great times.

Many thanks to everyone who raced or helped out on the day, there was a great atmosphere which continued into the night back at the clubhouse.
