Your club needs you! Finchley 20/Hillingdon 10 volunteers needed.
The Finchley 20 road race is the club’s main race fixture of the year and is coming up on Sunday 18th March at 9am. This is the one race that raises much needed funds for the club and helps to keep our subs down.
This year there is also a 10 mile race which is 2 laps of the usual course, and the 20 mile race which is 4 laps of 5 miles on the road. The marshal points are attached, together with a course map.
PLEASE VOLUNTEER & SUPPORT YOUR CLUB…. be part of the tradition!
We need 60+ marshals around the course plus further helpers for the two water stations (although we hope to have a number of cadets, who can help here). Course map is attached.
If a HAC member plans to run either event we ask that you please provide a marshal in your place. No experience needed.
If you can help please contact Maria Hernandez-Humm or add your name to the sheet at the clubhouse.
Please support this historic club event.

Middlesex Cross Country Champs-Juniors report
This year’s county champs was held on a very frosty and rather chilly morning over at Perivale. The course was through a patchwork of fields up and down the other side of Horsenden Hill with some lovely muddy slopes to negotiate.
The juniors had strong teams out and were hoping to retain some of the cups we had just returned from last year.
The U11s were off first, running 1.5k – at the moment there is no team competition but hopefully this will change next year. In the girls U11 race, Asmaa Abdirahman came storming through to become Middlesex champio with Sofia Gilda-Whyte coming in next for HAC in 12th – we had 5 girls this race. In the boys U11 comp 4 boys competed, with Christopher Burton finishing in 11th, Harvey Williams 12th and Callum McDonnell 13th.
In the U13 competition the girls came third winning a Bronze medal -( the first 3 home were Lydia Louw in 5th, Laura Anene 20th and Angel Doyle 26th) . In the boys Abdirahim Hamud came 3rd winning Bronze -the team came 8th overall.
In the U15 competition, the boys did very well, winning Gold with our team of Abdifatah Khalif in 2nd, Hanad Ahmed in 4th and Nathan Hackley in 12th. Our girls team of 3 girls came 9th in their competition .
In the U17 we had fewer athletes but in the men’s competition Alex Hutchinson came 12th and Tariq Arieff 18th . In the U17 women’s race Isabel Stark came 18th.
In the U20 men’s race our team won Gold with Liam Holbrook in 7th, Mayank Mishra in 9th and Tashan Allman in 12th.
Congratulations must go to all those that competed in a tough championship. Report by Diane Gibbons.

Metropolitan League Wormwood Scrubs
Another strong turnout saw Hillingdon AC’s Men’s A team finish fourth in Division One at the Met League fixture at Wormwood Scrubs at the weekend with the B team finishing sixth in Division Three and the C team finishing 21st in Division Three. This puts the A team in fourth position in the league overall and the B and C teams in fifth and 18th position respectively in Division Three with one fixture remaining.
At the start of the season I set the A team the target of finishing fourth in the League overall and we now need just one more good performance to achieve this. I also set the B team a target of finishing in the first two places in Division Three but this has proved a much harder target to meet given the improved standard of the league and the depth of competition down the field this year.
As always a big thank you to the 42 athletes who turned out to compete for the club at this fixture and in particular those athletes who also raced hard on consecutive weekends after running in the Middlesex Champs the week before. This included the first 10 scorers for the club in the senior race at Middlesex and two thirds of the team that won the Under 20 race and as such is a fantastic reflection on the level of team spirit and commitment we have within this squad.

5K Masterclass Progress Update
Saturday 6th January saw the first 5k Parkrun progress check for the Dash for Fitness Winter 5k Masterclass, in association with Hillingdon Athletic Club. The Masterclassers have been in training for 3 weeks, although due to Christmas festivities and various bugs doing the rounds, some have done more training sessions (and “homework”) than others! Nevertheless, there were still plenty of remarkable performances……
Despite only making 1/3 sessions, Bhavesh managed to repeat his speedy 22:48 PB time from the last Parkrun, and Kate was still able to beat her target time by 19secs (taking a whopping 49secs off her 35:00 baseline); Of those that made 2/3, Andrea did fantastic to get a new PB, whilst previous non-runners, Fauzia and Anne-Marie, both smashed their target times by finishing in an highly impressive 41mins. Perhaps the biggest stars were the two that attended 3/3: non-runner, Cindy, managed to run for the entire 5k (couch to 5k in 4 weeks!) and, as a result, annihilated her target, coming home in 38:06; and Thomas, who has never run anything more than short distances, put in an even more incredible performance finishing in a stunning 31:44.
In addition, whilst not able to be at the ParkRun, Rohit managed to run a new 5k PB (on the treadmill); Jane (another 3/3/ attendee and new runner) completed her own 5k progress check – more than 10mins ahead of target (wow!), and Jay did his longest ever continuous run of c7.5k. Congratulations to you all! Everyone now has a further 3 weeks of training before the second progress check on 3rd Feb.
We are now taking registrations for the Dash for Fitness Spring 5K Masterclass, in association with Hillingdon Athletic Club. So, if you’re a non-runner wanting to experience the fitness, health, and state of mind benefits of running, a beginner wanting to go further, or an existing runner wanting to go faster, please email dashforfitness@btinternet.com to register your interest. Track sessions will be on Thursday nights from 6.15pm-7.15pm, starting on March 15th. It costs just £50 for the 12-week course.
