2020 Gosunder Handicap Trophy results

This weekend’s Gosunder held on a new, covid friendly, course around Mad Bess Woods saw 32 finishers plus Martin Searle who stopped after 1 lap to look at the pigeons, reports Dan Spinks.

Strava links have been checked and Screech’s abacus has been working overtime to bring us the final results

It’s a real shame that we couldn’t have the normal presentation ceremony afterwards as I know how much this win will mean to this year’s victor.

If you look at the photo of the wonderful trophy you’ll see the same name appearing in both 2015 and 1959. There’s also a gap on the left of the picture where that same name is going to appear again

Yes, 61 (sixty-one) years after first winning it Doug Milsom has written himself into HAC history becoming the first 3 time winner of the Gosunder. Many, many congratulations.

Summer Series Race 7- Gosunder Handicap

The penultimate race in this year’s summer series will be the Gosunder Handicap Trophy on the weekend of 22/23 August. Hopefully we won’t have a repeat of last year’s storms and will be returning to Mad Bess Woods, albeit with a slightly shortened and massively simplified route

This year’s route is a 3 lapper, mostly following the perimeter of Mad Bess for a total of roughly 4.9 miles. It will be minimally marked with flour early on both the Saturday and Sunday mornings so the earlier in the day that you run, the more likely that the markings will be clear and obvious

The route can be seen at-https://www.strava.com/routes/2729736869339654938

But do not go onto Breakspear Road, that’s a Strava glitch. A more accurate route from Clive’s run is https://www.strava.com/segments/25349733?filter=overall

Handicaps will be worked out in advance (any bribes need to go to Screech) but, in a break from tradition, not communicated to you. Run the 3 laps anytime on Saturday or Sunday (Friday also acceptable but the course will not be marked) and send your result (along with strava/garmin link or whatever else you use) to danspinks@yahoo.com by midnight Sunday. We’ll then add on the handicaps to get everyone’s total time and positions

Summer series points to be earned by HAC and D4F members with the beautiful trophy being won by the highest placed, paid up, HAC member.

Thank you to everyone who made it possible to race within England Athletics and COVID-19 guidelines and to everyone who competed.

Results can be found here

The next 5k training race will be at the same venue on Thursday 10th September – COVID-19 restrictions permitting.

HAC Reality 5K Training Race

Ok, under all the current rules from UKA we have to do a remote race briefing and here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZq5JIJJgwk&feature=youtu.be Please watch it and listen clearly. It won’t be repeated at the event.

I have also attached the final course map. The course will be marked with arrows. red and white tape in the bushes and flour on the ground, but not to the standard of a XC fixture so please study it and make sure you are clear of the route.

Also shown is the layout of the HQ and the start finish pens.

You will collect your race number/chip from Gavin Collett at the collection desk from 6pm to 6.30pm. Please move on once you have your number/chip. NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY!

The first wave will start at 6.40pm. Everyone competing will need to be in the call zone by 6.40pm. You will be called by your wave number. Please move swifty into the pen. Each wave goes off after 20 seconds. Missing your wave equals no race for you.

Please look out for communications from James@activetrainingworld.co.uk

If there is an electrical storm nearby we may have to delay or cancel the race on safety ground.

We will be strict, but want it to be fun and rewarding for all.

Any spectators should keep away from the HQ zone throughout the event.

We hope you have a good race and look forward to seeing you all.

5km Training race

The next 5K Training Race is due to take place on Thursday 13 August. I am delighted that, subject to final council approval, we will be able to stage a REALITY 5K.
The race will be over a one lap course on the paths & fields of Hillingdon House Farm. There will be no ski slope or stream! The course is fast, a bit bumpy in places, but flatter than the Ruislip course.
The race is only open to club and Dash for Fitness members. Pre-entry is required by filling out the form on the link below. There will be no entries on the day. https://fs21.formsite.com/mbatemanhillingdonaccouk/5kTR/index.html
Should any problems occur beforehand, we will revert to the Virtual 5K format.

Summer Series Event 5 – (not) parkrun

Event 5 runs from 3 August to 9 August. Run a 5k and upload your time to the (not)parkrun section of the parkrun website for your home run.
If you’re not already registered with parkrun then you’ll have to fill in a little form beforehand. For more info on how it works you can look here https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009843618–not-parkrun-FAQs
Scoring will be age graded, not based on the fastest time.
Dan Spinks will check for runners who have registered their clubs as HAC or D4F at Northala Fields, Black Park, Ricky, Osterley, Harrow, South Oxhey and Cassiobury. If you are not registered as HAC/D4F and/or have a different home run then you will need to let Dan know or you won’t get a score.
Event 6 will be the August 5k training race on August 13th and event 7 the Gosunder handicap race on the weekend of 22nd/23rd August.
Thanks to Dan Spinks for organising this years Summer Series.
