DEVIL TAKES THE HINDMOST 2023

This year’s competition will take place on Tuesday 29th August at 7pm on the normal course at Rochester Road in Northwood Hills, opposite Haydon School.

Please register at the clubhouse by 6.30pm or be at Rochester Road by 6.50pm.

You compete entirely at your own risk.

All Club members are welcome to run, with a £3 fee for any non-Club members.

This year there will be a maximum of four competitions, with the exact make-up formulated after the entries close at 6.50pm:

Competition One                                           Maximum of ten rounds

Competition Two                                           Maximum of eight rounds

Competition Three                                         Maximum of eight rounds

Plate Competition (for those knocked out in the

early stages of the other three competitions, maximum of four rounds

Historically, the three competitions have been:

2018 (1) Under 50 Men; (2) 50-64 Men; (3) Women & Over 65 Men

2019 (1) Under 50 Men; (2) Over 50 Men; (3) Women
2020 not held; 2021 & 2022 just one competition

How does it work?

All the runners in each competition start together and run up the hill (just under 300m in length). The last one to the top is eliminated (sometimes more depending on number of entries). The remainder jog back down again and then repeat the run up the hill. Once again, the last one to the top is eliminated (sometimes more depending on number of entries). This is repeated until only one runner is left, who is the winner of the competition. So that everyone gets more than one run, halfway through the event everyone who has been eliminated to that point in the three main competitions can enter the Plate competition.

5km training race #5 August

Prior to the race we held a minutes silence to remember club member Sally Bundock, who sadly passed away earlier in the day . Sally regularly participated in the 5km training race and with her husband Frank stayed to take part in the quiz. Sally will be missed by us all and our love and thoughts go out to Frank and his family.

James Laing led home the field in the fifth 5km training race of the season in a time of 17:32. Nikki Penty- Alvarez came home as first lady in third place overall in a time of 20:14. There were 31 runners, with some returning club members such as David Gaffney who finished in 21st place and new club member Tony Dobson finished in 30th place. Full results can be found August 2023 Training Race Result (1).

As always a big thank you to race organiser Andy Torrance and officials Phil Welch, Gavin Collett, Charlotte Cox and Saffron Dobson. Paul Leppard hosted a challenging post race quiz and Chloe Charles kindly cooked a delicious meal. Thank you to the clubhouse team for their hard work on events such as these.
