Harry Wild

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death on Tuesday 19th September of our dear friend Harry Wild. Over his many years as a member Harry made a monumental contribution to club life in so many ways and the club house could never have functioned without his support. A kind and caring man who was always good company. On club nights after an early evening run he was a magnet that drew people around him to stay and have a drink and a chat. The clubhouse is not the same without him and we will all miss him dearly. Rest in peace Harry knowing that you were loved by us all. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. Details of Harry’s funeral will be posted here once known.

Final 5km training race of the summer

There was a very good turnout for the last 5km training race of the season with a very high standard of competition at the front end. First place was taken by Rob Thomson, in good shape ahead of the Berlin marathon next week, in a time of 15:25. James Lain took second place in 15:43, closely followed by Jamal Ismail in 15:48. Nikki Penty- Alverez was first woman over the line in 20:24 followed by Katie Newman in 21:13. Full results can be found September 2023 Training Race Result

Thanks to the officials Andy Torrance, Phil Welch and Gavin Collett. Also to Keiko and and Alan Tilly for the excellent food and Ellie Henderson for being quizmaster.

Devil Takes the Hindmost

A good field of 21 competed at Rochester Road hill in the 2023 edition of the annual Devil Takes the Hindmost.

After a brief drizzle subsided on the chilly evening, the competition was split into two; the eight women plus two men over 60 and the remaining 11 men under 60. Early exitees from both then contested a plate competition.

Ultra-star Kallum Pritchard held off the youthful challenge from Stevan Dokic’s training group to be crowned Club champion. New over 60 Steve Hirons celebrated in style by holding off Nicky Alvarez-Penty, whilst Jeremy Cox defeated Andrew Malyan in the Plate contest.
