Beaconsfield 5 mile XC race 21st April 2014

The third fixture of the summer series of races saw at least 14 members make the short trip to Beaconsfield’s vast Hall Barn Estate for a 5 mile XC race. Personally I was expecting a rather gentle course over manicured pasture land, however it was little more testing with most of the course rutted hard with tractor wheel indentations and twisty. This did mean it was a little hard to appreciate the splendid surroundings of the estate that was dotted with “temples” as it was wiser to watch the ground for the ankle twisters underfoot. Over 400 people contested the race with a dasher from Datchet taking the win in 27.14 mins. I was third in 28.53 mins, performance of the day for me from HAC was by Andy Miles aged 59 who was 15th in 32.07, Eva Mack was next and third woman in 30th overall with a 33.58 time. It was good to see so many out competing in the club vest on a perfect morning.
