2017/18 Membership form is now open here.

The new membership year is now upon us and the membership form is now open. Officials, coaches and life members also need to be complete this form. It is particularly important that if you want to compete you and/or a family member complete the form by the 1st April so you and/or a family member can be registered with England Athletics. The membership Secretary this year will be doing batches of registrations monthly so if the 1st of April deadline is missed it is likely that it could be mid May onwards before the next batch of athletes will be permitted to compete in club fixtures etc. If you want to join now but are unable to make a payment at this stage please contact Steve Hirons at s.hirons@ucl.ac.uk

Women home wins on home ground

Middlesex Championships – Saturday 7th January 2017
Where to start with our Fab 14 at the Middlesex reports Donna Nash
Headline has to be Gemma Barry’s individual 3rd place completing the course in 30:26. Gemma has been invited to represent Middlesex at the inter county Championships. Strong, determined run from Gemma who judged the race perfectly and has put in amazing performances at all races for Hillingdon – making Gerry Archer a very proud coach. She said she really enjoyed the course – although was slightly surprised that it wasn’t as ‘flat’ as the map suggested and this was her first experience of the infamous ‘ski slope’!
It was a close run result whether Hillingdon A team were to achieve gold or silver award and for those that may not have been on FB on the day, the colour was GOLD! This was thanks to the 3 following Gemma across the finish line:
Ciara Williams – 9th place in 32:59. Fantastic progress from last year’s appearance at the Championships at Wormwood Scrubs when she made the top 20.
Hannah Wells – 10th place in 33:09. Same position as last year’s Championships but 41 seconds quicker on arguably the more challenging course.
& Kate Shockley, (in Olivia Janke’s spikes!) inside the top 20 at 18th in 33:59.
I was very proud to stand in for Kate to accept her medal 
News of our other 10 competitors:
‘B’ Team comprised Karmen Pardoe (24th in 34:36 and running despite recent op in the week to have a wisdom tooth removed); Zoe Dobbs – literally flew across the finish line in 39th place (37:19) and whilst our main concern was Zoe’s health, the first question was whether she had crossed the finish line before falling; next came Alex Longton (40th in 37:26) and who managed a little extra distance having taken a wrong turn. A welcome return to racing for Alex who suffered injury at the start of the season. Mel completed the B team in 52nd place in 38:50 (marshals at the top of the ski slope may still be reeling from Mel’s ‘Death Stares’).
‘C’ Team comprised Lesley Conway (59th in 40:02), Pauline Fischer (60th for Angela Duncan in 40:14) Lucy Duncan (63rd in 42:04) and Boo Smith (74th in 44:17) who also put in that ‘extra ‘mile – in the wrong direction.
Lyndsey Browne and Christina Benjamin finished 79th and 80th in 46:29 and 46:46 respectively – working well together.
A truly fantastic performance from everybody and top team spirit as ever.
Well WELL done

Showing our respects

UPDATE: We collected £74.33 at Stevenage from our athletes and a few others attending  for the Black Ribbons, in memory of Stacey and Lucy  which the club  made upto £100 that has now been sent to the SportsAid trust for young athletes.

As I’m sure many of you will have seen in the news this week, 2 teenage girls from Aldershot, Farnham and District AC tragically died after they were hit by a car whilst they were out training on Tuesday. This Saturday is the Met League at Stevenage and I have seen on social media that a few clubs will be showing their respects by wearing black ribbons. I believe we as a club should do likewise. Katherine Wells, Hannah Jane Wells and Mummy Wells have kindly agreed to source and make the black ribbons for us   The ribbons will be available at Stevenage to those that wish to show their respects in this way for a donation of £1.00 to a sports charity.

On a lighter note if anyone is free to help marshal on Saturday from the start of the first race can you contact Richard Bloom of Herts Phoenix at rj.bloom@btinternet.com by tomorrow evening please.

London Marathon Club Place Ballot

HAC has  2 club places on offer to club members for the London Marathon on the 23rd April 2017.

If you are a fully paid up club member and have been for at least 1 year, have a VLM rejection slip/email for next year’s race, not previously won a club place in the last 3 years and want to do the marathon please email me, Martin Bateman at mbateman@hillingdonac.co.uk by the end of Friday 11th November 2016. Applications from people without a VLM rejection slip/emails can request to be put in the draw but will only be included if they reached the “seeded” requirement which is explained below.

Places will be awarded again this year by ballot and the draw/s will be at the clubhouse on a date to be decided.  These places are offered by VLM as a kind of reward to clubs so in turn the seeded applicants  will be those that have put a lot into aspects of management and organisation of HAC.

If for example 5 people apply and only 1 is of “seed” standard then that “seed” will automatically get the place. There will then be a draw for 1 place from the remaining 4 names. If for example there are 5 applications and 2 are of “seed” standard then there will be a Seed draw between the 2 people.  The unulucky seed will then go into the draw with the other 3 for the 1 place left. If there are no “seed” applications then everyone goes into the draw if there are over 2 applications.

Anyone applying will need to pay the entry costs themselves if drawn from the ballot. With only 2 places on offer it is difficult to please everyone with the system.
