Don Hirst Trust Fund
Background
The Trust was set up to perpetuate the memory of Don Hirst who was tragically killed whilst officiating for Hillingdon A.C. at a British League match in Luton in 1985. The majority of the original contributions were received from clubs competing at the meeting, and these were supplemented by club members and the wider athletic community.
The Trust was established as a memorial to Don with the specific intention to help young people in the pursuit of athletic improvement in their performance. Don had been interested in this and his family supported the proposal. Over time grants have been awarded to a number of fully paid up members of HAC.
Awards
The Trustees feel that trust funds should be available to all ages and disciplines who support the club on a regular basis. The Trustees are not in a position to know the financial position of each applicant or family where the application is being made on behalf of a junior member. Each application will be evaluated on a case by case basis before an award is made. Retrospective applications are not to be encouraged. As in the past consideration will be given to helping with the purchase of technical equipment, funding physiotherapy and other medical treatment, helping Athletes to compete at National level events and training courses.
