Fayers justifies his Hillingdon Borough Athlete of the Year award

Matt Fayers put his recent speed training to the test by winning London Indoor Open Championship 800m race in 1:50.42 reports Stevan Dokic.
Matt’s A race on Sunday 27th January at Lee Valley put him amongst some rivals who, with faster times, had edged him in races before. This race was right for Matt with quality athletes taking it out from the start. All Matt had to do was sit in  behind the front pack. At 200m to go the bell rang for the last lap Matt was in 4th place. The race was on and Matt edged his way onto the leaders shoulder and with 75m to go his classic sprint kick was on to put him into the lead. His only mistake was to ease for the line and win. Matt is training 2/3 years ahead of his time and the next few months will prove this. Earlier in the week Matt had been awarded Hillingdon Borough’s Mayor’s Cup for Sports Person of the Year.

Also racing was Chris Ingram who continued his season with a slight improvement of his indoor PB with 2:04.23. Chris is determined to break the 2.00 minute mark for the 800 this summer and his training will do this for him.
