Half Marathons

A clutch of HAC athletes took part in the Wokingham Half Marathon on Sunday 19th Feb 2012 reports Martin Bateman.

The event is fairly low key but attracts many very good competitors and is fast and almost flat which helps to draw the crowds.

The day was fresh in the breeze but once on the move the temperature was ideal and only the breeze tempered the possibility of slightly faster times, not that it stopped Phil Wicks of Belgrave Harriers running a course record 63:14 on his own on the quite rural lanes.

I was our closest challenger, however my pb time of 74:42 and 45th is very modest in comparison. Dan Thompson ran through the pain barrier to record in his first HM 76:28 (55th) having done very few long runs prior to the race due to multiple injuries and niggles. PauL Hull V45, also had a memorable race also clocking a pb as a vet with 79:27 and 85th overall and 4th V45M. Dave Smith V45 completed the team having done very little training for this race in 408th and a creditable 93:45.

This is definitely an event I would recommend doing. Results here.

I see that Andrew Malyan V45 competed in the Brighton Half and ran 90:21 for 226nd place. Results here.
