Hannah’s July Race Round Up!

A great month for our junior athletes who have been busy competing in the Alder Valley and Young Athlete’s leagues. A great season for the u13/u15 girls and boys have now seen them gain promotion in the Young Athlete’s league, winning all our matches convincingly, hopefully we can build on this next season! Well done to all athletes, parents and coaches!!

Our third 3k training race for Juniors took place, with 44 young athletes taking part.  A special mention to Max Mcgarvie who won the race in an impressive 10:11. Well done to Nicole Mcgoven for being first female 12:35 and to all that took part. Our next junior cross country race takes place from the clubhouse on the 12th of August from the clubhouse, please register between 2.30-3.30pm – 2.5 miles for the juniors, 5 miles for adults, followed by a BBQ!

The third SAL match took place at Reading, it was a tough match against some very competitive teams, we managed a third place which puts us mid table going into the final event. Man of the match goes to Kevin Acraman for an impressive throw of over 40m to take the win in the men’s Hammer.  Female of the match goes to Georgie Floyd for a very impressive Javelin throw of 39.20, great to have you back on the team Georgie! Please make every effort to attend the last competition at Abingdon on the 19th of August coach leaves the clubhouse at 9.30am.

Well done to Sam Fraser who jumped his way to third place at the English Schools championships in the Senior Boys event on the 9th of July!

A massive well done to Mohammed Ali who ran a new PB in the 3000m 8.44.61 at Tooting on the 29th of July. Mohammed is now ranked 1st in the UK all time for U15 boys!!

The last vets Track and Field Fixture took place at Perivale, a very close match saw our ladies finish 2nd place only 1 point off 1st and our men coming 3rd by only 1 point!  With our 4th and final match now completed on Wednesday 12th July, the Hillingdon AC Veterans Men’s team finished the season in an excellent 2nd place overall.

Vets Men’s League Season report by Jason Steel

The 1st match was at Battersea with the highlight of the night winning all the age group 400m races one after the other and great performances all round. We finished 2nd here on the night, Unfortunately Phil Octave pulled up injured on his 4x400m relay leg, rupturing his Achilles, and we all wish him the best and hope he recovers well. We finished a close 2nd to Herne Hill on the 2nd and 3rd meetings at Hillingdon and Battersea and with the final match at Perivale on July 12th we just needed to consolidate 2nd place overall here to maintain our finishing place. With a great group of Athletes turning up and covering nearly every event and a few away for this fixture we did well just being pushed into a very close 3rd by Serpentine.  So overall 2nd place for the Men’s team this season which gives us a very strong platform to build for next year.

Well done to all who turned up and competed for the team. All Results for the 4 meetings are on the Power Of Ten Website.

A note from Maria

Thank you for being part of the ladies Vets team, you are a fantastic bunch of ladies, willing to put the team first, sometimes getting out of your comfort zone to do so and it has been a real pleasure to be your team manager.

I wish all of you that are currently injured a full and speedy recovery and hope we can all be back for 2018.

Take care Maria xx

The next summer series race took place at the Regents Park 10km on the 23rd of July, a fast and flat course, which was reported as well organised and friendly. The Ladies Summer Series points table is being hotly contested with Debbie Brown currently in the lead, can anyone catch her?  David Shelvey has now extended his lead after the 10km by 11 points after 11 Events! Next up is the Bearbrook 10k, please see summer series poster details for more information!

The last Parkrun Tour on the calendar took place at Wycombe Rye, it was a 1,2,3 for the Hillingdon AC ladies with Michaela Mayor leading the way followed by Hannah Wells and Melanie Spencer. It has been a great tour with lots of fun along the way! Keep your eyes peeled for more tour dates, remember your club vest!
