HILLINGDON VETS LADIES POISED FOR METROPOLITAN LEAGUE TROPHY AND PROMOTION!!!!!!
With only 14 ladies taking to the start line for today’s Metropolitan League fixture at a flat but very muddy Wormwood Scrubs I feared we would lose ground on our close rivals, however with only 190 ladies in total in the race, and some very strong performances from all 14 athletes we are looking good as we head to the last fixture in a month’s time at Trent Park!!
Our A team were 4th out of 12 teams yesterday and now sit in 6th place in the top ladies division following great runs from Carole Coulon (15th), a season debut for Catriona Paterson (19th), Hannah Wells (22nd), Jen Harvey (33rd), identical twin Heather Paterson (43rd) and Freya Hollingsworth (72nd).
Our second string of Karmen Pardoe (85th), Zoe Dobbs (112th), Sheree Kestell (138th), Stephanie Suntong (144th) and despite running on one working leg Melanie Spencer (154th) did enough on the day to pull almost 100 points ahead of the two teams below them so should avoid relegation from division 2 with a good turnout next time.
The depleted third team of Ellie Henderson (158th) , Nastaran Sepanj (165th) and Vicky Brownlee (180th) did well to come tenth on the day of 19 teams and sit comfortably in tenth position in the division 3 table.
Of our 14 ladies, 7 qualify as vets, and their performance on the day was remarkable!!
Carole, Karmen, Zoe and Sheree were 4th on the day and the team sit in 3rd place in the top Vets division. HOWEVER despite only having three to score (4 can score for any vets team) Stephanie , Mel and Vicky were third equal team on the day but as our main rivals failed to turn up in force our Vets second team now sit TOP of Vets ladies division 2 albeit just 2 points clear of Victoria Park and 4 points clear of Mornington Chasers. To clinch the title and to get promoted we MUST have a great Vets turnout at Trent Park on February 19th.
PLEASE put this date in your diaries now. Our third team won the division 3 title last year and our second team are poised to take the division 2 title but ONLY if we turn up in force at Trent Park just like we did at the same fixture last season when a HUGE number of ladies vets turned out meant we literally ran away with the division 3 trophy!!!!!
