Hillingdon win Southern League Leg 2 – Battersea, Saturday 19 May

Hillingdon AC emerged victorious at the end of the second fixture of the Southern Athletic League Div 2 central at Battersea Park with 191.5 points, 17 points ahead of Belgrave, Highgate and Serpentine clubs.

The HAC team of 18 men and 9 women earned their victory with wins and personal bests in the sprints, field and long distances. Man of the match award must go to Phil Octave for a phenomenal run in the 4 x 400 relay third leg gaining about 100 metres from third place to lead – total lap time of 48.7 sec – handing over to Carl Yates who ably maintained the winning position by about 30 metres.

In the men’s competition, winning sprinting performances came from Jordan Thurston, 200m (22.7 secs PB), Alan Davidson in the 200 m (23 secs) and 100m (B), and all in the men’s 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relay teams. Michael Kendall ran a PB of 18.5 in the 100m hurdles and in the discus threw a PB of 25.9.
Michael Church also triumphed in the discus throwing a PB of 25.13m and then another PB of 49.96m in the javelin.
Winners in the women’s events started with Georgie Floyd in the 100m (B) with a 13.9 PB – eventually declared joint first place. Emma (Grant) Danby gained first place in the 800m and she and Hannah Wells both won their 1500m for A and B streams respectively, Hannah with a PB of 5:16. Emma Danby was selected as the official “Best Female Athlete of the Match”
Emma Arnold impressed all with her PB of 1:25m in the high jump and V50 veterans Christine Heemskerk and Lesley Conway ran their (recent!) personal bests of 77.9 and 78.2 in the 400m, the latter then gaining a PB in the 3000m and third place.
