Lido Relays
A good turnout of seventeen teams, comprising of 40 runners, competed in this traditional end of year race run on the 1.6 mile path around Ruislip Lido reports Dave Smith.
This popular location attracted walkers, dogs, prams and cycles on a bright, winter day, requiring the runners to have their wits about them in negotiating such obstacles.
Ed Campbell, running all three laps, finished in the fastest time of 27:53. Second place was another one man team, James Manley, finishing all three laps in 29:04. Third place went to John Bignell and Martin Bateman finishing in 29:50.
The next generation of Warburton’s showed that speed runs in the family, with Phillip finishing the quickest lap in 8:54. His sister Keira completed her lap in 12:02. Martin Bateman completed the second fastest lap in 08:59 and Ed Campbell third in 9:00.
The spirit of the Lido Relays is that it is a family event, and this was displayed by the Hall family of Christina, Arun and Noel, completing a team in 32:00. Karen O’ Rourke along with her son Kirk finished in 33:45, with Ben Forde making up their team. Courtenay Clarke and his daughter Celin crossed the line in 36:08, Chris Green bringing the team home with the third lap.
Lynne Hyde, husband Mark and HAC athlete Melanie Spencer finished in 36:08. Maria Hernandez- Humm and husband Peter ran in a total of 37:04. Steve Thompson, sandwiched between mother and daughter combo Lucy and Anglea Duncan, combined to finish in 38:58.
A big thank you to Gerry Archer, Phil Welch and John Howe for helping with the timekeeping, Pete Warburton for marshalling and Harry Wild for assisting me in the running of this event.
