London City Runner Met League, Trent Park, 14th January 2012
A solid turnout at Trent Park for the fourth Metropolitan League fixture of the season saw the Men’s A team finish fifth on the day behind Woodford Green, Serpentine, Highgate and London Heathside reports Paul Leppard
This means that with one fixture remaining the A team should finish at least fifth in Division 1 overall as we now have a 460 point gap between ourselves and Serpentine’s B team in sixth, although the task of potentially finishing fourth has now become a lot tougher, as London Heathside took full advantage of their closest fixture to put out a strong team and increase their lead over us in the league table to 258 points.
Robert Thompson was again first scorer for the club. Buoyed by his performance in the Middlesex Cross Country Championships he was as high as sixth in the race before eventually finishing 13th. Martin Bateman was second scorer for the club in 26th, with Dan Thompson 30th, James Manley 51st, Sam Blanshard 52nd and Chris Ingram 91st to finish the first six within 100. Daniel Rowe continued his recent improvement to finish 118th, Paul Hull and James Shipley made their competitive returns following injury to finish 132nd and 135thwhile the scoring 12 was completed by the ever present Steve Hirons, Simon Claridge and Dave Newman who finished 139th, 166th and 168th respectively.
The B team finished third in Division 3 on the day behind Serpentine’s C team and St Albans Striders. This leaves the B team third overall behind St Albans and Serpentine. Gavin Barclay made his cross country debut for the season to finish second scorer for the B team in 179th.
A report for the women and juniors required.
