Met League Race Five, Senior Men, Trent Park 11/02/2023

Never mind Tom, Dick and Harry, Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men staged their own great escape from the relegation places of Division One of the Met League as the A team finished seventh on the day and ninth in Division One overall after the final Met League fixture of the season at Trent Park.

With the bottom two teams relegated from Division One, Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men had flirted with relegation for much of the season after scoring a small number of points at the second league fixture of the season at Wormwood Scrubs that saw the A team in 12th and last place in the division after two fixtures. However, improved team performances at Uxbridge, Welwyn Garden City and Trent Park saw the A team slowly but surely improve their league position over the final three fixtures and secure their place in the top division of the Met League for the 2023/2024 season.

On the day, the A team was boosted by the performance of Jack McVann who marked his season’s debut with a fine 25th position and the return of Jason Ferrett (74th), Martin Bateman (137th) and Anthony Warnakulasuriya (237th).

Andy Wood marked his debut for the season with a top 300 finish in 294th as he helped the B team to finish third on the day in Division Three and seventh in Division Three overall after five fixtures.
