Met League Race Four, Senior Men, Welwyn, 14/01/2023

Hillingdon AC’s senior men moved just out of the relegation places after the fourth Met League race of the season at a wet and muddy Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City, where an eighth place finish on the day saw the men’s A team move up to 10th place in Division One with one fixture remaining.

Bolstered by the return of James Laing (36th), Rob Thompson (53rd) and Phil Warburton (100th) the scoring 12 for the A team were completed within the first 231 places but there was a noticeable gap between the eighth and ninth scorers with eighth scorer Guy Green finishing 124th and ninth scorer Paul Leppard finishing 192nd.

A relatively strong B team performance resulted in the B team finishing in 3rd place on the day in Division Three and the B team now sit in seventh place in Division Three overall after four fixtures. Jeff Shotton was first scorer for the B team in 244th while Michael Illing was the eighth and final scorer for the B team in 324th.

Both Steve Edwards (329th) and Alan Wells (357th) made their cross country debuts for the season as part of an incomplete C team.
