North London Cross Country Championships, Hackney Marshes, 21 November 2015
A fantastic fifth place from Martin Bateman at a very windy Hackney Marshes helped Hillingdon AC’s senior men finish in seventh place at the North London Championships.
With a strong cold wind but in bright autumnal sunshine, there was a fast pace set from off as athletes made the most of the firm underfoot conditions on the twisty paths in the scrubland around Hackney Marshes playing fields. Daniel Thompson was the club’s second scorer in 25th, Liam Holbrook was 38th, Paul Leppard 43rd, Gary Horn 73rd and Jeremy Collis 75th as the senior athletes who comprised the scoring six in the team competition.
Trevor Steeples was 106th, John Bignell 108th, Bob Burton 111th, Doug Milsom 126th, Graham Wood 128th and Alan Wells 129th to finish as 5th B team.
The race was won by John Franklin of Serpentine whilst the team race was won by London Heathside with Serpentine in second and Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets in third. There were 131 finishers in the men’s race.
