Princes Risborough 10km
The latest race in the Summer Series Grand Prix took place on the hottest day of the year so far. Despite an early start time, the majority of the field were feeling the effects of the heat, and the rolling Chiltern Hills, by the 5km mark. Although not a day, or a course, for fast times, the 12 Hillingdon AC athletes competing did themselves justice. Of the five Hillingdon AC women athletes, three were placed first in their age category. Without doubt the performance of the day amongst Hillingdon AC athletes, was Susan Monaghan who finished first senior woman in a time of 38:17, almost three minutes faster than her nearest rival. Other distinguished achievements for the women included first Vet 35 for Donna Nash and first Vet 55 for Lesley Conway. With Jane Newman as the fourth scorer the women also bagged second place team, Jackie O’ Dowd finishing just outside the scoring four. For the men, the youthful John Bignell, once again found his form to take first male Vet 60. Martin Bateman, Simon Connell, the evergreen Andy Miles and Dave (mid-life crisis) Newman ensured that Hillingdon AC finished second men’s team. The remaining three runners were Daren Roscoe, Dave Smith and Andy Torrance. The club were thanked by the organisers for once again fielding a strong side. Well done to all 12 runners on representing the club in tough conditions. The next Summer Series race is this Thursday, the club 5km training race.
