Run, Jump, Throw evening

On looking at last night’s programme I was concerned to see that at 7 pm there was a slot for the Chairman’s speech. Fortunately for those attending the PA system wasn’t working, resulting in me being unable to deliver my words of wisdom on the night. However where there is a will there is a way, and these are my thoughts that I would like to share with you.

Firstly a big thank you to Courtney and Suzanne for ensuring that the evening took place at all and ran so smoothly. However, there were a host of other people who made the evening a success including the timekeepers and officials, those who helped out in the field events, Jill and Susan in the kitchen and Martin who advertised and promoted the event. Nevertheless the event would not have been a success without the 90 athletes who competed. It was truly inspirational to see athletes from the past, present and future all in attendance and participating in one capacity or another. In Gerry Archer and Harry Wild we had two people who had been members since the club was formed in 1966. In Liam Holbrook and Adam Ireland, we had examples of the clubs’ future. And finally we had numerous current senior and veteran athletes who had competed at the SAL on Saturday and in the Vets League fixture on Monday. Rarely do we all come together like this but when we do, as we did last night, we can be a force for good raising £200.00 for Michael Sobell House. Finally, we demonstrated that fifty years on from our club being founded we remain a friendly, community based club in which you will find a home if you want to run, jump or throw.
