South Of England Cross Country Championships 16/02/13

Congratulations to the eleven Hillingdon AC senior men who braved the nine miles of mud and hills in the South Of England Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill reports Paul Leppard.

Daniel Thompson was first finisher for the club in a strong 76th position and he was followed by Scott Farley (208th), Daren Roscoe (357th), Paul Leppard (385th), John Bignell (391st), Martin Searle (399th), Dean Burch (459th), Jason Brigend (467th), Bob Burton (469th) and Alan Wells (535th). 541 finished. Brian Feldman also completed the race but isn’t shown in the results however was just ahead of Alan.

Alan Wells continues: By the time the 10th race of the day set off which was a minor 15k (9 miles) for men the whole grass had been totally replaced by  part paddy field and that which wasn’t a very thick clay glue.

Conditions ( one fellow Hillingdon athlete commented personally the worst in 50 years for him running  at Parliament Hill)    even forced the organisers to slightly rearrange the planned 3 lap mens course, due to what they said were ‘ some poor ground conditions’ over the loudspeaker  system.
Running round Ruislip Woods even this winter could be described as easy compared to that which  our determined bunch who all completed the course encountered.
Hillingdon were also represented in the Junior Women’s race where Hannah Wells covered the 6K course in 27:42 to finish 36th. Whilst in the Under 17 Mens race also over 6K Dominic Speight came home in 25:23 to finish 137th.

The men’s team race was won by Bedford & County and Hillingdon AC finished 24th of 31 clubs to finish a scoring six.
