Southern Athletics League Saturday 30th April – Andover
A coach of happy Hillingdon Athletes headed for Andover in blustery but sunny conditions. They retuned finishing 2nd (174pts) to the hosts (233pts) and well clear of London Heathside and Croydon Harriers.
Nicola Tikare had a stand out day with PB’s in THREE events, the U17 opened up with a confident win in the 100m in 13.2. She also gained top points, by pipping an U20 Andover rival by such a small margin they were awarded the same time. She then gained her final PB in the high jump with 1.40m.
The men’s team was bolstered with some welcome returns. Michael Church returned from Mexico with a tan and a winning throw of 45.97, only 2.5 meters from his PB. Philip Octave came back in the 200m and a leg of the 4 X4 after an 18month absence and James Manley was welcomed back competing in the 800m and the 5k.
Further wins came from Rob Tompson in the 1500m and Claire Tompset in the 200 B string and Shot put. Heather Gibbons made it a clean sweep in the 100m taking top B while Rachel Blackburn won the 400m Hurdles and Discus in the B string. Julie Martin made it a throws tripple winning the Discus, Shot put B and Hammer B.
Added note from Doug Milsom: Emma was far too modest to mention that she won FOUR A-string events: 800 m, 1500 m, 3000 m and 1500 m Steeplechase. She then ran the lead-off leg in the 4 x 400 m Relay. An amazing, and exhausting, performance.
