St Albans Cross Country Relays 15 September 2012
Hillingdon AC’s senior men got the cross country season off to the perfect start with a win at the St Albans Cross Country Relays.
The A team of Dean Clark, Matt Fayers, Robert Thompson, Daniel Thompson, James Laing and Martin Bateman sped round six legs of the 2.9 mile course in a combined time of one hour, 30 minutes and eight seconds to win the race by more than two minutes in front of next placed club Nene Valley Harriers with Highgate Harriers third and Harrow AC fourth.
The B team finished eleventh, the C team sixteenth and the D team in last place in twentieth.
The women’s team of Hannah Wells, Pauline Fischer, Alicia Van Veen and Lesley Conway also competed, finishing eighth of nine teams with London Heathside taking the win.
The St Albans Cross Country Relays have been run since 1956 and this is the first time that the race has been won by Hillingdon AC in its 56 year history and so hopes are high of another strong team performance at the club’s next fixture, the South of England Six Stage Road Relays on 23 September.
