Vets Track And Field Final Fixture Perivale.
The final vets track and field took place at Perivale on Wednesday 13th July reports Jason Steel.
The Men’s team went into the match in 3rd place behind Herne Hill and serpentine after finishing 3rd, 2nd and 2nd at the previous meetings so we really did need to have a good team performance and beat serpentine to finish 2nd overall.
We had an excellent turnout on the night and covered every event well and I could tell from the start we had a very good chance of achieving our goal.
To name a few Mr reliable Keith Seldon scored well in winning the M50 javelin with a good 32.59m and 2nd place in the hammer and Vaughan Ramsay in 2nd M35 High jump and 1st in the long jump 5.43m.
Great efforts on the track as usual from Martin Bateman in the 3000m in 9.33.2s and Andy Moore 2nd in the b string 9.37.00s.Matt Taylor taking 1st place in the B string M35 800m in a solid 2.14.00s. Doug Milsom has been a credit in the M60 age group although he is a M75 and ran a good 3000m for team.
Performance of the night for me came from Andy Wood who ran a superb 200m to win in a quality time of 24.6s which I believe is the fastest time we have ever had in the vets to date.
Finally the 4 x 100m relay, we had won all 3 relays so far and really wanted to make it a clean sweep but faced very tough completion from a strong Herne Hill team, Vaughan ran the 1st leg passing over to Matt Taylor then myself on the 3rd leg, I passed over to Andy Wood on the last leg in a close 2nd place and Andy ran a storming 100m to overtake Herne Hill Harries and snatch victory by .1s of a second with the excellent team time of 50.00s.
Credit also goes to the Women’s team who finished a very creditable 3rd overall, Maria has done a fantastic Job not only for the ladies but keeping us all going with rolls and tea afterwards.
Roll on next year we will only be stronger!
